Report

The event was held in the pleasant surroundings of the Connaught Hotel and all three sections p rovided nail-biting finishes.

Ten players took part in the Major and before the last round of a very even contest four players were level on 3½ points.  Since all four had played each other they played lower-scoring opponents.  However, with two of them losing, the two home players took the top two prizes.

19 players entered the Intermediate Section and a very consistent performance earned Alan Ruffle a clear first prize.

The Minor was again very close and at the start of the last round any of seven players could have won.  An entry of 35 in this section meant that 8 prizes were actually awarded.

The total prize fund was £550.
