The regular season for our U125 team finished with a fixture against Warwickshire.
Thank you and well done to all the players who competed for Staffordshire this weekend and over the regular season.
For the second U125 fixture in a row, 15 minutes after everyone else had started, I found myself facing an interesting challenge when one of the team was unable to turn up.
As I was playing, I didn't really get the opportunity to see how the other games went.
Petrov's defence has a reputation for being quiet and drawish.
Matthew Carr told me his game was certainly not that, and that he won a very interesting game.
Well done to Max Wooton and Thomas Healey for their wins.
Ray Dolan told me he finished with a good draw, and from what I saw of John Day's game it looked tense.
As for my game, on move 23 I was forced to exchange a rook for his bishop, effectively leaving me a pawn down in material.
I was still just a pawn down on move 42, but blundered a bishop on the next move.
Most of the players told me they had good games.
Well played everyone!

Thank you and well done to all the players who competed for Staffordshire this weekend.
Despite being outgraded on most boards, our team played well.
Congratulations go to Steven Cooper for his win against a player with a grade of 97, and well done to Terriers' captain Paul Clapham, for his draw.
Due to a mix up, one of our players didn't arrive for the match so as I was there anyway, 20 minutes after the start time I found myself playing:
Outgraded and a time handicap, a heady mixture, but it was a reasonable game.
The next match is a home game against Warwickshire.
It should be played at Brewood.
If you are interested in playing you can either phone John Day, or email me
Andrew Davies.
I will pass on your details.

John Day made his debut as captain of the u125 team against Worcestershire this afternoon.
John's team took an early one point lead, thanks to wins from Peter Broomhall, Peter Shaw and John Day himself.
The points swung to and fro, until with just one game remaining and eleven players looking on, the Staffs player needed a draw to level the match.
Unfortunately, time trouble and a gambit that didn't work as intended meant the result went the wrong way - giving the win to Worcestershire by 7½ - 8½.
A solid start from John Day's team.
Well done everyone.
